Foreword
The team of producers of this website believe that the source of contemporary conflict about sexual minorities is gender binarism. The process of building an inclusive community is very much a process of de-stereotyping, or "de-labelling". And as we have seen on other pages of this website, labelling is both useful and necessary for popular perception before the desired goal of de-labelling can be achieved.
In this page, only one section is introduced by the team, which is AI in voices. What else we individuals in this big community can do in this area feel free to email us at lrlin620@foxmail.com for more discussion.
AI in Voices
Technology is changing lives, and this can be seen in the way we live our lives. ai, or algorithms, have flooded people's lives. Software can predict when people will use it, predict the trajectory of our lives and anticipate the demand for goods. Video pages can predict our quality of life levels and potential preferences based on our playback history. But there is a more human-like presence of AI that also affects people's lives: voice assistants.
In 2022, people will be able to perform simple actions with a smartphone voice assistant, such as Siri. For example, setting alarms, creating schedules, memo reminders, etc. After a person has given a voice command, the AI will analyze the semantics and give feedback, and then execute the command.
The part of the process where the human senses are strongest is not the part where Siri completes the command, but the part where feedback is given. And this feedback, in the default setting, is accompanied by the voice.
In the settings, users can choose from different national languagesand accents, for example English with an English accent, African accent and Indian accent, etc. With the gender, users have a wide range of options.
The problem, however, is that all genders are close to the traditional definition of male and female, which means they are gender binary. A team with unknown nationality and gender composition developed a genderless voice and wished to push the voice to the market for Siri and Alexa to use. Let’s meet Q.
Q
Q is a gender-neutral voice assistant that produces gender-neutral voices. Not only does it reflect the diversity of our world, but it also reduces gender bias. The team at Q aims to break the mindset that female voices are usually better suited to assistive tasks, while male voices are suited to command tasks.
It is possible that in the future people with emotional need can be partly satisfied by AI with traditional gender identities, but as a voice assistant, a genderless voice option without a doubt, contribute to the vision of a world with less label.
